Course Summary

In the Health course, students will learn about the lifestyles and habits that help and hurt one’s health as well as the physical, spiritual, social, environmental, and emotional effects on health. This course will cover topics such as deciphering nutrition labels and understanding sexually transmitted diseases, drugs, physical fitness, and mental illnesses.

The objectives of this course include the following: 

  • Learn the 6 dimensions of health and how they affect you  How sleep can affect your physical and mental health 
  • The different categories of drugs and how they affect your health if abused 
  • About Sexually transmitted diseases and their short and long term effects 
  • How to maintain good mental health and to recognize the symptoms of mental crises  
  • The different types of mental illnesses, plus causes, and stigmas  
  • How environmental issues like pollution can affect your health  
  • How to identify healthy spiritual practices and spirituality's affects on health
  • How your social life can affect your physical and mental health  How to read and decipher a nutrition label 
  •  The effect of specific nutrients on your health, how to find them in foods,  and which nutrients you should avoid.  
  • How to identify your body type  
  • How to manage physical illnesses and how to choose the appropriate medical facility when dealing with an illness or injury  
  • How to maintain physical fitness, and conduct tests to assess your physical health

Incredibly Informational!

This course covered so many aspects of wellbeing. As you learn more about physical, emotional, and spiritual health, you also learn more about yourself in the process. There are well-paced segments of information that allow you to really digest what is being taught, and the readings are downloadable, so you can print them and take notes if you want! Overall, I loved this course, and it really made a positive impact on me.
